102nd Ave Bridge Closure

In late October, a truck struck the 102nd Ave NE bridge over SR 522.

Here’s what’s happening immediately:

• The bridge sidewalk will continue to remain open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic during construction.
• The bridge will remain closed to all vehicle traffic until repairs are made.
• Because of the size of the area served by this bridge, there is no single detour for this closure. Your alternate route will depend on your destination. The closest Sammamish River crossings for vehicles are I-405 or SR 202 to the east or 96th Ave NE to the west.
• Emergency services are using alternate routes. If you call 911 for an emergency, you will still receive care, regardless of what side of the bridge you’re on.
• In light of these impacts and the expected need for increased coordination, the City Manager has issued a Proclamation of Emergency to allow for streamlined decision-making and emergency response implementation. We are closely monitoring the costs associated with this repair.

What to expect next:

Design is complete, a construction contractor has been selected, and materials are being procured to make necessary repairs to fully reopen the bridge as soon as possible. With upcoming mid-week holidays, we are working to determine a construction start date, which will be early January at the latest.

Construction will take about 4 weeks of work to complete. To repair the bridge from the underside, SR 522 will be closed overnight between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on working days, which will typically be from Sunday night to Friday morning. Detours around the SR 522 closure will be in place.

We’ll share more information about construction and traffic impacts by early next week, as soon as the construction contract is signed.
