Computer  Learning Centers


A variety of computer classes are available for people over 55 at Northshore Senior Center Computer Learning Centers for a nominal fee. View the list of current classes being offered during the quarter at the Bothell Computer Learning Center or Mill Creek/McCollum Park Computer Learning Center or Kenmore Computer Learning Center   Call 425-487-2441 to find out the latest class schedule and how to register for our classes.  Computer learning for people who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities are available at the new Northshore Health & Wellness Center computer lab.  For more information call 425-286-1038.

Computers are also easily accessed at the Bothell site in the waiting room and hall whenever the senior center is open for students to practice lesson material, complete their own project or just to play a game of Solitaire. You can also have your own E-mail box if you do not own a computer with a modem.

Computer User Groups: Something new! We have just started two Computer User's Groups: a PC Computer User Group and a MAC Computer User Group. Join in the question and answer discussions and help each other develop more computer-ease.

BENEFITS CHECKUP ON THE INTERNET
BenefitsCheckUp.org allows older Americans, their families, caregivers, and community organizations to easily find what federal/state benefit programs a senior qualifies for. Learn to fill out a simple, free, on-line survey. BenefitsCheckUp issues a report on programs for which they are likely eligible, with step-by-step guides on how to proceed. Users do not enter name, social security number, etc. The National Council on Aging added BenefitsCheckUpRx, to connect older adults to prescription savings programs.

This class will let you get a grip on the questions: "What do I want, or need?" and "How much do I pay?" We will have a discussion about the sizes of the hard drive, memory, processor speed and operating systems, including programs you would like to have (depending on what you want the computer to do for you).  Write down any questions you have and bring them to class.

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS

Create Your Own Web SITE
3 day course: (6 hours)

List your pictures, news, favorite links, and more on your own website.  Web host (GeoCities) provides an easy-to-use program for creating and uploading your site.  We will focus on actually creating your web site.

DIGITAL MUSIC ON YOUR COMPUTER

E-bay Buying and Selling

Bring a photograph and learn some techniques to restore antique images or correct mistakes in contemporary images using Photoshop Elements.  The intention is to improve the original images, not to change them.

 Label Making with Your ComputER

Are you going to let your computer control you, or would you rather control the computer?  This is a narrowly focused class on file structure.  You will learn how to create and name folders, how to identify various file types, and how to use the Windows Explorer feature to find any file.

COMPUTER CLASSES

IN-HOME COMPUTER HELP
Additional help is available from CLC instructors in your home for a mutually agreeable cost.  To request assistance with your software, or setting up your computer, printer, scanner, etc.

"NORMAL" COURSE SEQUENCE
All courses can be taken anytime after taking “Windows (Beginning)"

COPY AND PASTE, Etc.
Review how to COPY and PASTE items within and across applications.  Make related e-mail tasks fast and easy and copy clipart, pictures and make backup copies of your documents or folders.

FOLDERS and THINGS
You will learn how/where to put folders, how to organize your documents in folders, how to find '"lost" documents, and how to "back up" your documents and folders.

INTERNET AND E-MAIL
T
his is a great class for people new to the Internet. Learn the language of the internet as you create e-mail messages and attachments and navigate the Internet.

MAILING LABELS
Create an address list and make mailing labels for envelopes! In this class you will use an "Excel" Spread sheet and "Microsoft Word" to format labels and print them. Bring a list of 5 names to class.

MS-WORD WORKSHOP
Use Word to make posters, certificates, and letters. Use formatting features to enhance the size and color of items in documents, or insert pictures into documents. We will focus on what you want to learn.

PICTURES
Use a simple graphics package to manipulate picture input from digital cameras, scanners, or other sources.  Jazz up your cards and letters with family pictures.

SPREADSHEETS (Basic)
Use EXCEL to create a simple spreadsheet such as a phone list, address list, or check register. Learn to perform calculations quickly and simply.

WINDOWS (Beginning)
Start, stop, and drive your computer so you can control the software applications. Create, modify, print, and save documents. Work with icons, folders, and floppy disks. Organize your computer desktop.

The spacious computer learning lab at the Northshore Health and Wellness Center serves people who want computer instruction.  In addition to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Internet Explorer, the computers are loaded with special software such as JAWS, Intellikeys, Dragon-Naturally Speaking and Zoom Text which help those with vision, hearing, or mouse control issues.  We will also give one-on-one instruction to people who need to upgrade their skills in order to find a job, or to improve in their present position.  The instructors are waiting to help you!  These classes are located across the street at the Health and Wellness Center.  Walk across the bridge and go down to the second floor, then turn right.
