The Archstone Foundation presented the Northshore Senior
Center with the annual Award for Excellence in Program Innovation at the national American
Public Health Association meeting in early November, 1999. The award honors our work in
testing and implementing the three Senior Wellness Project
programs, and replicating them in thirty-three additional sites in Washington and
Virginia. The Senior Wellness Program is now under Susan Snyder's direction at Senior
Services. The Northshore Senior Center has also just received the National Institute of Senior
Centers' Research Award for our Lifetime Fitness and Health Enhancement Program studies.
Special thanks go to our research partners at the University of Washington Northwest
Prevention Effectiveness Center, the Group Health Center for Health Studies and Evergreen
