Northshore Senior Center
  About the Center

  Who we are...

We are 7,000 seniors, 55 and over, who meet in the Northshore Senior Center where services and activities are provided to enhance our well-being and independence and encourage our involvement in the community.
Our 700 volunteers form the heart of the Center. Every service and activity provides a chance for each member to have a place in our operations.
We have health clinics, classes, clubs, a computer lab, special events, Wellness Project, Adult Day Centers, social services and trips galore. Our coffee bar and lounges offer great opportunities for meeting old friends and making new ones. Our facility is completely handicapped accessible.
A listing of regularly scheduled activities, classes, and services of the Northshore Senior Center, special events, trips, support groups and general announcements are available for free. Pick up your copy of this 40-page quarterly newsletter at the reception desk of the senior center.

  Where we come from...

The roots of the Senior Center reach back to 1972, when a group joined together under the name of Senior Apollos. In March of 1974 the club, now known as the Northshore Senior Center, came under the auspices of the Northshore Recreation Program and the Northshore Multi Service Center. On August 13, 1974, the Bothell Park Board voted to move the historic building known as Lytle House to the Park at Bothell Landing. Lytle House was officially dedicated on May 10, 1978.
The Center became a full member of Senior Services of Seattle/King County in 1983 and in the fall of that year received a Community Block Grant to double its size.
In 1988, the Center mounted a campaign to create the Northshore Park and Recreation Service Area and pass a $3.6 million bond issue to build a new Center. The campaign was funded through trip commissions donated by Northshore Tours. An additional $500,000 was raised for construction and equipment, with major contributions from Boeing Employees Good Neighbor Fund, Northshore Rotary, GTE, and thousands of senior and community donations. The new facility opened in September 1992.

  What we do...

Our quarterly newsletter lists hundreds of classes, activities, trips, services, and special events for each month. All paid members receive a mailed copy of this informative bulletin as well as reduced fees for activities and classes. Or, you can pick up your copy of this 40-page quarterly newsletter at the reception desk of the Senior Center.
Services include Meals on Wheels, employment, tax aide, legal and financial counseling, and peer support.  Van transportation is available to the Center for weekday activities.
The Center serves both hot and light lunches five days a week at a nominal cost; breakfasts and dinners are regular events. Health care is provided through Health Enhancement Program, foot clinic, and health screening and education programs.
For the frail and disabled elderly, the Northshore Adult Day Center offers individual attention, caregiver support and therapeutic activities that include physical, occupational and speech therapy. Fees are on a sliding scale.
Both Lytle House, home of the Adult Day Center, and the new 24,000 square foot Senior Center facility are available for private and community rental. A resident caretaker provides building security at all times.

  How we are Governed...

Our Center is headed by a member-elected Board of Directors. We seniors raise more than half our budget through fund raisers, fees and donations, while cash and in kind contributions from King and Snohomish Counties, Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, United Way and the City of Bothell account for the remainder.  Northshore Senior Center is affiliated with Senior Services of Seattle/King County, a United Way Agency.
